    Yrkoon9 by standing gi choke

Everybody knows you can't end a fight with a standing armbar against a resisting and trained opponent.

That's the thing, a lot of standing locks can work if their snapped on, it's just that you can't really expect to apply them slowly and get someone to tap to them.

I tend to de-emphasize stuff like this in my training, because I'd rather work with a known quantity (i.e. if you don't take something to completion every time, then how will you know where you stand with it?).

There are some naysayers about stuff like this ever working at all. Obviously it does; the only question is that of percentages.

Seen it. And out of at least 500 fights that I have seen (probably closer to 1,000) I have seen exactly ONE standing armbar in MMA. I have also seen one Wakigatame in Judo that ended up on the ground but that was like 92, and dont know if its legal anymore cuz the dude looks like he got hurt real bad.

granted most people wont be stupid enough to try a standing gi choke.

you would see more standing armbars in mma if people trained in how to do them. but people don't train with them because they would still be low % techniques.
In his log Yrkoon9 got a win off a standing Gi Choke.

Actually my girl was yelling to wake him up. I was like....**** that, I'm not waking him up. Someone else do it. Hence the 3 referees all wondering what to do.

I think the rules still allow it - but I think it along the lined of a flying armbar - you can't fully extend the arm until the very end of your attack. Could be wrong though - it's not something you see too often.

    So am I.

I've tapped plenty of guys with standing gi chokes. Never in a tournament, but plenty of times during randori.

I stand corrected, waki gatame directly to the ground is illegal in shiai.
