That's the story anyway. I don't know about all the details of the history, I just started two months ago. The school has some McDojoish tedencies, but the adult classes are run fairly well and I don't have any serious complaints.

See I am familiar with the Chinese tradition of making up stories about the origin of a book or style, but it isn't supposed to be taken seriously. For example, the first book on acupuncture is called the Huang Di Nei Jing and was attributed to the legendary ruler of China, Huang Di, who lived 5000 years ago. Great story. But there was no Huang Di and he sure as hell never wrote a book. But you still get some yahoos that say "acupuncture is over 5000 years old" based off their misconception that the book is an accurate representation of Huang Di. Instead it was written [probably] about 2300 years ago and just attributed to Huang Di.

Cute, just as long as nobody takes is seriously.

Looking at the site of the school you train at, when you click on "Tien Shan Pai", you see a seal that says "64th grandmaster", which makes one think that your grandmaster takes the claim seriously. He might joke about the autheticity of the origin of the style, but putting that "64th" on the seal leads me to believe that he actually wants to perpetuate this claim.

But in the end, I guess what matters more is if you can actually fight with it.

Now it seems like Master Willy Lin has his own site:

    http://www.linkungfu.com/index.html

Somewhere else it was mentioned that Master Willy Lin did this to call Bullshido on Master Huang's claim that he trained with the previous grandmaster in Taiwan, but I haven't had a chance to inspect the site.

It's always been my impression that Willy Lin has authentic TSP.

From all the crap that I had to wade through on this topic, I kinda think the same thing, though what I learned and what he presents are different enough to bring up even more questions for me...that will probably never be answered.

So I started learning the Five Element fists from Xingyi (from my kung fu brother that got me into TSP) to incorperate into my MMA training.

I'd assume folks are still checking this thread...
I am also a student of TSP and from what I understand the conflict between GM Huang and GM Lin is basically that both have a claim to the GM position and from what I understand Willy Lin was not around GM Wang when he passed, because of a different business venture. Again the problem arises because no one is able to actually corroborate either story.

Depending on his level get him to show you 8 mixed fists.

For anyone with the patience to sort through it, there is an extensive TSP discussion thread on the Rotten Tomato forums.
