Yeah McKarate !
A female friend of mine got a knock at the door one evening by some nerd in a karate gi offering "self defence" classes, he said he was an instructor (salesman).
When asked how long he'd been "training" his reply "..err , about a year".
My friends younger sister, a brown belt( 3 yrs solid training) in an "old school" karate style offered to fight him!
Of course he didnt , couldnt!! :binkybaby -

I think there are some good people at the upper levels, but for the most part the local instructors are a fairly mixed bag. The "instructor's belt" basically hides whatever rank you are.
That said, if GKR is still promoting themselves are a non-contact, self defence oriented school.... bah, I've wasted too much time already. -

I don't know about the novice to black in two years. I think it's longer usually, I figure the extended time makes for more class fees.
Fluffy, I'm just curious which regional manager this was. As I said I was approached at one time to join up, but declined since I was headed for uni. I'm just curious if it happens to be the same guy. -

Zeddy, I'm based in the UK. I live in what GKR refer to as "region 27". The regional manager was an Australian sent over from Sydney. His name was Daniel Taylor. Maybe there's some info about him somewhere on their web page.
The black belt thing may vary between countries, but I know for a fact that the "fast-track" programme run by Taylor is designed to get people to black belt in 2 years. Its programme is three lessons per week. Each lasts one and a half hours. This is less than my current CLASS training, yet there's no way any half decent club would fast-track me for training as I do. -
