    Hell yeah! Hell no!

Why people said Tai Chi fights like kickboxing?

This is inspired by the other thread.

There are also punches and kicks in Tai Chi.

Punch to the heart, abdomen, groin and knee etc. Hu Xin Chui, Zi Dang Chui, Ji Di Chui etc

Swing kick mid to the ribside, high to temple. Leg sweeps. Jump or fly kick Er Qi Jiao.

Turn around and swing kick or Zhuan Shen Bai Lian.

Double punches to the heart (with both fists) or So Tou Shi.

Hammering fists to the opponent's forearm. or Zha Quan, Lei to break elbows.

Stamping foot to the opponent's foot.

    etc etc.

Actually just about every step may become a kick. Because you move one foot close to the other before you extend it out again.

The circling of forearms may be used to strike with a closed fist.

    etc.

If you see somebody punches and kicks, you said it is kickboxing.

Ok, then all the styles of fightings are all kickboxing including Tai Chi.

I think he was saying that he thinks tai chi isn't very good because it still uses punches and kicks.

Tai chi chuan!!! Don't call it tai chi, tai chi is for old people.

Anyways, most moves can be translated into punches. Theres Lotus kick (outside crescent) and cross kick(push kick). People like the fighting chens however, use tai chi chuan as a means of kick boxing, they use chen style though which has more kicks. Tai Chi Chuan is good for fast throws.

Has there actually been any record of people using tai chi chuan to fight? No, seriously, I want to know.

My grandma does tai chi. She used to kick my ass with it all the time until I learned jujitsu.
