Split Second Survival with Larry Wick
I first became acquainted with Larry Wick in the back of a magazine I think it was “Greatest Things You Never Knew Existed” or something like that. Well the advertisement stated that Larry could teach you how to handle multiple attackers, knife attacks, gun attacks, that he only trained against men who outweighed him by 20 pounds of pure muscle and has learned to devastate any attacker without complicated throws, strikes, or ground fighting.
His advertisement in “Things You Never Knew Existed”
Wow, that would be nice to learn, I though to myself. One night while on Phil Elmore's website I discovered that he links to Larry Wicks website and decided to check it out. It is the normal RBSD stuff about how Sport fighting is all nonsense and that we do not train realistically, gosh, I wonder why Phil likes him?
Some excerpts from the About SSS section of his website.
“Do you believe that you can get any joint lock or joint manipulation on a big man who is throwing punches trying to beat you to a pulp?”
“Drugged out, crazy people do not care about pain! They want something from you, AND THEY WILL DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO GET IT!”
“SSS will show the reality of joint manipulations and the misconceptions that so many instructors teach.”
“How is it possible to defend against multiple attackers if you commit two hands to apply a joint lock? The answer, YOU CAN'T”
Larry on grappling:
“Do you believe in the concept of grappling as a viable asset in street survival? Think of yourself rolling around on the ground with a two hundred pound construction worker who is nothing but strength and power. You may be thinking right now, I have trained for years. I am big, strong and fast; I can handle it. What if he is sweaty, or is wearing suntan oil. What if you are wearing a suit, boots, tight jeans, or a heavy jacket? Are you in the snow, on the beach, in a bar where there is no room? MOST IMPORTANTLY, how do you know you are fighting only one person, and that he is not carrying a blade? Simply, you don't! How can you defend against more than one attacker if you focus on taking a person to the ground? YOU CAN'T! If you are thrown to the ground, your only goal is to injure and confuse your attacker while getting to your feet as quickly as possible.”
Larry has a word for all you strikers too:
“You must have the ability to defend yourself at all times and in any situation. Punch or kick a 200 hundred pound man in the face as hard as you can. Let me know how it turns out! Those who teach punches and kicks as effective techniques are not dealing realistically with a street survival situation. They have no concept of how difficult it is to have the power to stop an attacker using only combinations of kicks and punches. Even at that, what would you do when you see a knife or firearm because this man knows he cannot beat you hand-to-hand?”
Also he has a video section where I hoped he would demonstrate some of his deadly split second techniques but I was wrong. The videos are super short and give no real information. Nevertheless I hope you check out the videos and post your views.
Here is the Link to his website.
The videos are under SSS Downloads. (top right hand side)
On a personal note, I am about 200 pounds (196.5) at my last Judo Tournament and I have worked construction, so according to Larry…I am…like…totally street deadly! So I guess I am impervious to kicks, punches, or joint manipulation…which is good to know…
BTW I know Omega started a thread about Larry a while back but I started another because his site now has videos and I thought it was time to revisit Larry “Street Deadly” Wick…
Omega’s post, very funny…

What if he's covered with suntan oil?
If you routinely grapple with muscle-bound men covered in oil, that should tell you that you should stop getting drunk and jumping up on the stage at the Chippendale's Club.I dork harder than any of you can imagine.

It must be so confusing for him when he gets into a real fight and there's only ONE person to beat up. I wonder if his system still works then?

fyi, Larry Wick was over at PB for a very short time. However he took a lot of flak because he wouldnt answer any specific questions on his system. He ended up leaving in huff.

6/27/2005 3:17pm, #8Here's a "taste" of what you'll discover: a "vital target" map of vulnerable spots on the human body to instantly take out anyone (of any size or skill level) who attacks you;
how to "mask" your intentions...so your fight-ending move is completely hidden and a total surprise to your opponent; how to end the fight on your terms in just seconds; how to learn in one quick session almost all you need to know to face down the most dangerous situations you'll ever encounter. All you have to learn is 8 simple moves...which work whether you're standing up, running or on the ground.
I have NOT the words. Not the WORDS.
Now you can learn what Mike used to survive and why the nastiest undercover division of the U.S. Military chose him over Spec Op Soldiers. Speed strikes that will absolutely scare the hell out of your opponent. Ten power strikes that will rain devastating blows on anyone who dares mess with you. Plus instant "knock out" pressure points, driving shoves for immediate take-downs, head lock hip throws, and so much more.
I have even FEWER words.

I actually reviewed Larry Wicks DVD's. If you can get access to PB check it out.
Larry's a nice guy but broad generalizes way too much.
What I really didn't like about him however was him saying that some poeple just don't have enough experience to understand his material. What a load a.......
