    This is a red flag.

My current school requires FIVE 2-minute rounds of stand-up followed by THREE 6-minute rounds of grappling...in addition to all the techniques, pushups/sit-ups, woodbreaking, etc.

Although +rep for escrima and Sinawali work.

dude, a single five-hour session for a Judo promotion? What the hell are you doing for five hours? You can't grapple consistently for five hours, that's crazy. And there are only so many throws you can do which don't take that long to do them all, unless you are doing paired kata over and over, I can see how that might take up some time, but jeez!

This was quite a crazy test, the two other Masters there thought our instructor was crazy for expecting so much. My master said his test in korea was easy, he did 3 patterns and sparred that was it. Then again they were testing in a stdium with a thousand students from all over.
congrats, though next time I'll save you all the hassle and just sell you one

So, how much did you have to pay for the priviledge of testing?

Seeing as how my WTF TKD BB test (b4 i stopped) took a grand total of about 40 min I have to say that's one of the better TKD BB tests I've seen. Eh one round of 3 min WTF sparring - you guys prob go to so many tourneys that sparring is already taken care of. Better to check if all that other stuff that you dont do in tourneys is ok.

if you dont spar alot well hey its just TKD no biggie

Yeah we spar quite a bit. Basically I think the formal test is more of a demonstration of what you know not a test. There was 15 people testing for BB so a longer sparring session woulpd have taken forever.

If it's like any normal TKD school, I'm guessing around $1k.

Only costed me like $300 but I had a dicount of sorts since I teach there. Usually $500 do get 2 months free training after. Funny cuz my boss only clears like a hundred and forty of that at most, the rest are crazy WTF and alberta TKD association and CTA fees. You do get a nifty card for your wallet from WTF and a nice big plaque. Still a rip off though

It's a rip-off, but you pay into it. Interesting.
