It seems the writer did not notice that this stance "the back stance" is the same stance a hoplite used: the spear in the right hand, the shield on the left.

I think there might be some new information on this site since this thread was opened. I really enjoyed reading some of it, and it will take me weeks to finish all of these very long, well-written articles.

An interesting modern Pankration history tidbit you might not know about:

kickcatcher was certified as an instructor in a bogus Pankration org from the UK set up by a TMA fruit who kickcatcher had a soft spot for.
