Wood can conduct if the voltage is high enough, it was probably leather or something - not a conducting material but at that voltage...

No Blade, voltage is actually a measure of "electrical pressure" You can touch a very high volt item and actually feel nothing at all, however if you touch an item that has high voltage and amperage, then you will likely get fried.
Besides, wood has way too much resistance to conduct such a lethal rate of charge at high voltage before it started to burn. -

That's what I mean. Anything but a metal conductor would have charred and/or ignited before it conducted a charge into his body like that.
Sounds really fishy. Most of those "Darwin Awards" are made-up anyway.
