I'll vouch that MurderFactory isn't Strangler.
He made a post about 52 blocks on Sherdog,
to which I replied. Then he bit my post and put it
    here as info :).

MF, you'll find very few people who believe in 52 here,
since there's no satisfactory evidence of it. If you want
to know about it, your best bet is to contact Doug Century,
the author of the Street Kingdom, and ask him if he ever got
that film crew together to tape it.

MF, if you're really interested in 52, I have a clip of a traditional
russian MA that looks like 52, based on the description of
    it in Street Kingdom.

Aside from the physical techniques of offense and defense it is actually rooted in ancient teachings. Through proper breath control they can relax their sphyncter so that they are impervious to permanent damage from gang rapes. They also have meditative excersizes that allow them to reach a hieghtened state of awareness through Mushin, and find a happy place. This is especially usefull during those above mentioned gang rapes, or extended visits to solitary confinement.
Plus, it lets you smuggle cigars in your rectum, and allows you to not mind the flavor.

I don't know how useful the 52 blocks are and whatnot, but here in GA it's called the 52 shuffle or 52's for short. This old partner of mine show me some it when he got out of the state pin after 8 years. He seemed to know what he was doing to me, but said that he was nothing compared to some of the lifers he mate. Some of the moves he showed me there were no need for a punch just elbows, knees, and headbutts. Not saying that no punches are used, he did show some, just not needed. According to him 52s are the number of times you should be able to hit somebody knockedout before they hit the ground. In other words it's a contest. Knockout the joker with the 1st to 3rd hit, and see how many more times you can hit them before they fall.

As far as I know many guys I saw fight as a kid in jr. high up through high school were using this style. I just didn't know the name. And yeah all of them spent time in the state pin.

While waiting for some of my friends to pick me up outside the Virgin Megastore in Chicago, I watched a group of 20-something males standing on a corner working on a combo consisting of a rear-hand trap, a front back-fist, and a rear stepping elbow.

    I did not get video.

It is unclear what, if anything, this proves.

There actually is some photographic evidence for the 52s, in the form of a couple of articles written by Doug Century (post-Street Kingdom) - there are probably still links up from StickGrappler's site, which has the best info on this obscure system on the Net. He (Century) was also trying to arrange a video session at one point but it's understandably hard to get these guys to commit to anything that doesn't show a profit.

Dennis Newsome claims that the roots of the 52s go right back to the days of slavery, is ultimately of African origin (q.v. capoeira, etc.) and that the art has been passed down in secret through the prison system since then; interesting theory but I've never seen any evidence to support it, though there is some evidence suggesting that similar fighting styles were preserved for some time in the Deep South and on Gullah Island.

As far as I can make out, the system (assuming it isn't all some very elaborate scam) is based on a combination of slapboxing and general streetfighting tricks, with the conditioning and theory of boxing, backed up by heavy weightlifting and certain elements taken from the Hong Kong kung-fu movies which were extremely popular in urban African-American culture during the '70s, when the 52s are supposed to have been invented.

There is also some debate about whether it is really designed for prison fighting, or if it is actually something that evolved as a training system in prisons with the aim of developing better combat skills for streetfighting once the practitioners got out of jail, which seems more likely.
