but WC or other derivatives, use butterfly swords, i think
butterfly knives are something else, let me find some info

Butterfly swords are those short things with wide blades.
Butterfly knives are the ones were the handle is in two sections with the blade hidden in the middle. You flick one of the handle sections through 360 and the blade is exposed.

You are both thinking of balisong knives, aka butterfly knives. However, there are other wing chun weapons called butterfly knives which look a lot like the sword so I am just making sure that I am ordering the same thing, if I order the swords vs knives. Thanks for the help though, I appreciate.

Thanks to everyone for the information. It looks like I will be going with the mass market sword for now. Once I become more proficient with the weapon I will invest in a more appropriate and nice one.
