In the past, when I was a teenager, I used to feel like the earth was in some kind of crisis where in a generation or two we were all going to die because of enormous pollution spraying out of factories left right and center. That was the impression that was given to me by a lot of TV shows, articles, and things that I was exposed to when I was in high school and elementary school.
But now when I have just a little bit of scientific knowledge on the issue, I have realized that I can calm down.

That's correct. It's usually done with the gi, although there is a "naked" version as well. You basically twist the gi around the lower shoulder (right where the bicep meets the shoulder) and squeeze it tight contstricting blood flow to the arm. Your opponent's arm will eventually go numb which causes a great deal of undue stress and mental anguish, usually causing your opponent to tap. If your opponent does not tap, eventually gangrene will set in resulting in your opponent needing an amputation. I've only seen this happen once oin over 20 yrs. experience in judo. It was the world championships, however, where you'd better leave it all on the mat.....including a limb if necessary.

What's funny about this thread is that the guy I was partnered with in the demo has majorly improved and is tapping me out now on a regular basis.
