I was going to post something witty and/or sarcastic about a bunch of canadians hijacking the thread, but then I realised.... You have to live in the same country as Quebec...
(and yet another slack jawed yokel thinks...."but canada isn't in the middle east?")Taking responsibility for my actions since 1989 -

If you want to see some messy politics, check out the different BJJ factions in Brazil. Those guys get really steamed at each other. Plus, you have all the different family branches bickering, as well as the battle over whether it's really BJJ or GJJ. The whole Brazilian Top Team saga is a soap opera in itself. I was totally oblivious until the owner of Santa Fe BJJ started training with us. Martial Arts are all the same, give a new style thirty years and it turns into the Judean People's Front vs. the People's Front of Judea. As ol' Rodney put it, Can't we all just get along?
"Go cry about it Vargas. Aren't you late for your shift at McDonald's?""I had once talked to Billy Conn, the boxer, about professionals versus amateurs - specifically street fighters. One had always heard rumors of champions being taken out by back-alley fighters. Conn was scornful. "Aw, it's like hitting a girl," he said. "They're nothing."

Yep, that's the claim. However, people have a habit of using the brand name that is stuck in their head, hence the continued use of the term 'BJJ'.
