I don't get how these stats work. RNC has 40, Arm Bar has 30, yet Arm Bar has 9% and RNC has 8%

Starts from sherdog probably aren't within the same time bracket, and probably not restricted to UFC and Pride.

I'm surprised at the low number of triangles, I would have assumed more. Does front choke mean with a gi?

If you do the stats for the 1993-1997 submissions you get:

RNC - 27%
Guillotine - 17%
Arm Bar - 20%
Armlock - 9%
Front Choke - 9%
Triangle - 5%
Heel Hook/Ankle - 4%

I think you just agreed with me.

Anyway, actually pertaining to the thread: I'm not surprised that RNC is such a high percentage. In some of the early UFCs, some people who didn't know how to grapple (like Jason Delucia against Trent Jenkins in UFC I) would just instinctively grab on and choke.

I am mildly amused in top competitions that people still get choked out by forearm chokes.
