    SUB: matches won:

    Rear Naked Choke - 40
    Guillotine - 25
    Arm Bar - 30
    Armlock (Various) - 13
    Front Choke - 13

Percentage of matches won be specific submission hold:

    Arm Bar - 9%
    RNC - 8%
    Guillotine - 3%
    Triangle - 3%
    Heel Hook - 1%
    Misc. Choke - 4%
    Misc. Submission - 4%
I don't get how these stats work. RNC has 40, Arm Bar has 30, yet Arm Bar has 9% and RNC has 8%

I was thinking RNC before I opened the thread.....

Royce subbed Akebono with an omoplata from guard

Once again, these stats are from 1993-1997.

    Royce fought Akebono in 2004.

    People, please read!!

Polefighter was just asking if anybody had EVER been submitted by an omoplata, not necessarily between 1993 and 1997.

No, he definately thought it was all time.

Why else would he mention an omoplatta from a match 7 years after this survey???

Starts from sherdog probably aren't within the same time bracket, and probably not restricted to UFC and Pride.

I'm surprised at the low number of triangles, I would have assumed more. Does front choke mean with a gi?

If you do the stats for the 1993-1997 submissions you get:

    RNC - 27%
    Guillotine - 17%
    Arm Bar - 20%
    Armlock - 9%
    Front Choke - 9%
    Triangle - 5%
    Heel Hook/Ankle - 4%
    Kneebar - 3%
    Neck Crank - 3%
    Arm Choke - 2%
Rear Choke (Not RNC) - 1%

    Roughly.

I think you just agreed with me.

Anyway, actually pertaining to the thread: I'm not surprised that RNC is such a high percentage. In some of the early UFCs, some people who didn't know how to grapple (like Jason Delucia against Trent Jenkins in UFC I) would just instinctively grab on and choke.

The official record on Royce over Akebono was wrist lock, though all of us saw it as varying degrees or armbar-omoplata-wrist lock.

I am also curious about Angry Monkey's question: What exactly are you referring to by a "front choke"?

I am mildly amused in top competitions that people still get choked out by forearm chokes.
