Hey, question about one of the rubber guard triangle setups, the one here:
http://www.grapplearts.com/Rubber-Guard-Setup-1.htm
I've tried this in class, and after locking the triangle, they just don't tap. I don't know what he's talking about with "not worrying about the arm", because for me with the arm to the side like that it feels like there's not enough pressure. At this point, I always need to disengage the left leg and place it on their hip so I can push out to the right side and bring their arm across before applying the triangle... but I guess now I'm just using the rubber guard to get past an arm and then doing a normal triangle, and this takes a lot longer. Is there some 'trick' I'm not getting about getting them to tap from the position shown in the article? -

The names are gimmicky, and Bravo clearly has a hype team dedicated to advancing the cause of rubber guard, but I don't see how that makes his version of the high active guard a gimmick.
Bravo clearly has a workable system based upon it. That alone makes it not a gimmick.
I don't use rubber guard much at all, but I've played around with it in the past. I may play with it again in the future. At the very least, I consider it good enough to have purchased Bravo's book."No. Listen to me because I know what I'm talking about here." -- Hannibal -

I wonder how much of their lives people waste crying and praying to God. If you ask me, the devil makes more sense than God does. I can at least see why people would want him around. It's good to have somebody to blame for the bad stuff they do. Maybe God's there because people get scared of all the bad stuff they do. They figure that God and the Devil are always playing this game of tug-of-war game with them. And they never know which side they're gonna wind up on. I guess that tug-of-war idea explains how sometimes, even when people try to do something good, it still turns out bad. -

Not a gimmick...just a style/strategy of no-gi grappling...
If it works for you, great...if not, then eh...stick to the regular stuff. I've tried to use it (just stuff from what I've read in his book) but it doesn't seem to work for me because I'm a bigger guy (5'10" 200lbs.) and not as flexible (it puts a lot of pressure on your ankles/knees) so I just stick to "regular" jiu jitsu...
