Everyone on here is like constatly bashing TKD and calling it a McDojo. And yes i'll admit alot of tkd schools are mcdojo, but really there are probably just as many karate schools that are to. Not all tkd schools do only no contact sparring or break boards the size of tooth picks. Some are actually pretty good. Like my school we do Full contact sparring, Alot of Hapkido, and two man Kicking Drills to improve counters. Just a thought.

Don't sweat it TKD, although I mainly train MMA..BJJ, MT, boxing, Escrima/Kali..I teach 5 TKD days a week. But, not a watered down shitty version, I try to keep it as real as possible, for kids & have brought in stuff from my other training..we do groundfighting, multiple attack drills & more..
Your at a site started by people who wanted to be able to bitch & moan about things without being edited & also bring to the surface the "McDojos"
& we all know they do exist, if yours ISN'T a Mcdojo, don't worry about it, I don't. If it is & you have anything to say about it, change it!!

We have broken away from all TKD Assoc. so we bring in anything we want...still maintaining the kicks & basics of TKD.

Like I said on another thread, it's not the art but the money hungry clowns calling themselves instructors.

Probably not, there are more TKD Dojangs than Karate Dojos, so therefore there are probably more TKD McDojangs than Karate McDojos. Probably the same Percentage though, and then there's the confusiong of people teaching TKD but calling it Karate and vice versa.

Many have a problem with TKD being ineffective, having poor, unrealistic training, being geared more for point-sparring tournaments than a real fight. I've yet to see a school that had full-contact training, good conditioning, bag work, and self-defence training that doesn't have the same rules that are in TKD competition. I have seen (myself) lots of forms, one step self-defence that rarely works, and sparring that has those same restrictive rules that plage so many TMA's. Kyokushin would be wonderful if some of its rules were removed =/ (I'm not calling it BAD, but some of the rules are kinda ridiculous in my humble opinion)

I agree. I just ****ing hate Point sparring... Never in my life have I heard of such a ridiculous and pointless system until I moved to the U.S. Luckily, my Muay-Thai instructor being the really nice guy he is, he doesn't mess around when it comes to real training. We do all the things you mention above, and we train specifically for Boxing techniques, kicking, and full contact sparring with protective gear to keep from unnecessary injuries that would keep anybody from keeping a regular training schedule. He doesn't care about money either. The tuition is dirt-cheap ($15 a month) and he actually has hooked me up many a time. Our space is not the best, and even crammed at times, but I feel very lucky to train there.
