I was bored last month one day and picked up an issue of Soldier of Fortune, some freaky stuff in there. (A lot of these guys are operating out of South Africa I guess) Apparently there are a lot of mercs operating in the current Ivory Coast conflict under UN sanction for the first time (sometimes against each other.)
Here are a couple of links I found once:

LMAO! I LOVE the mercenary stuff! :-D
Mercenary has always been in south africa. It is like their playground.

yeah probably because of the really good military that we have/had, there are a lot of ex special forces guys around. Plus this is a good launching point for operations into the rest of Africa.
If you thought the SEALS were tough check out the South African National Defence Force 'Recces' , the SEALS have a 40% pass rate where as the 'recces' have a 7% pass rate. Thee guys are the toughest of the tough. the Normal South African paratrooper training has a pass rate of 40%

Well Recces aren't the toughest. I know there are one special force from europe that have passing rating of only 4%.

Relative pass rates don't mean anything. The "funnels" can be very different. By that I mean the pre-qualification selection process. SF used to require a minimum of E-6 or above (which tranlsates to about 5-6 years in service) before you could apply to the Q-course. Now it's E-4. (Tried to recruit me before I left...an idle boast.) It's my understanding that pre-qualification selection and requirements for the SEALS is a little longer, no? Additionally, COME ON GUYS!! American military schools exaggerate their pass rates in order to deflect Congressional scrutiny. I'm pretty sure that SF is not 40%. (100 men will test today, but only 3 win the green beret) My brother went through AF Specops qualification school (is that what it's called?) at Hurlburt, and their pass rate was lower than 40%. Definitely DOES NOT mean that they are harder than the SEALs. They just take virtually anybody, therefore...lower pass rates. American regular combat forces have some of the highest levels of competence and training in the world, which would make them uniquely qualified for SF schools (which are pretty much the same in terms of tactics and doctrine, really). As an example, many American enlisted personnel would qualify as officers in most foreign military forces. Don't make specious comparisons without reliable expert testimony.

Maybe schroedinger's sparring, where it's neither grappling nor anti-grappling until somoene observes it and collapses the waveform, and then I RNC a cat to death.----fatherdog -
