    Close.

    Actually the Star Fairy governs that section of the brain.

    When the skull is impacted, the SF becomes disenfranchised from the main apparatus that can be loosely termed the "Star Throne", and as this occurs, some of the special star juice is ejected from her ample bosom. This fluid then travels along the optic nerve and onto the surface of the cornea, thereby allowing the punched to appreciate the wonderful bouquet of this cosmic "money shot".

    Strange, I always thought my stars were red and white.

    Edit: When I land on my head or get choked out, I generally like to lie there for a while until sensation has returned before getting up?

    Mine were yellow : )

    I don't know why they were distinctly star shaped though, and not just amporphous spots of light.

    Mine are actual yellow stars too, sometimes twinkling silver.

    All the learning to fall right (not that I fall right) won't stop it from happening occassionally. If you do perfect ukemi and get your bell rung, you'll still see stars.

    Mine are yellow or sometimes silver, and they blink in and of existance in random patterns. But I´ll now try to remember Reese´s explanation whenever I see them.
    That civilisation may not sink,
    Its great battle lost,
    Quiet the dog, tether the pony
    To a distant post;
    Our master Caesar is in the tent
    Where the maps are spread,
    His eyes fixed upon nothing,
    A hand under his head.
