Comments about Tank Abbott

Did anyone see on the UFC website the comments that some of the fighters made about Tank Abbott?

Vladimir Matyushenko: "It would be a good fight for both of us. For me, because it could bring me the title, and for him because I promise not to kill him."

Gan McGee: "I think Tank's record in the new UFC will speak for itself."

Frank Mir: “I feel very confident that if Tank makes a mistake that I will submit him. Tank needs to try to hit me a lot but stay safe because if he opens himself up there will be a submission. I’ve submitted people that I was not supposed to be able to submit before. We’ll see.”

Ricco Rodriguez: "Tank who? All I know is he is a disrespectful, fat slob. I have no respect for him because he is the most unprofessional athlete I have seen in my life, if you can consider him an athlete. How can Tank come and disrespect the UFC heavyweight division when he's never won a UFC title? He thinks he's going to beat me? I don't think he is going to beat anybody in the UFC. The UFC isn't handing him a free fight. I think Frank Mir is going to walk right through him. I think Frank will beat him in two minutes."

Tim Sylvia: "If everything goes right, I win and he wins, I’d like to fight him. I don’t think he’s an athlete. He never has been and never will be. I’m disappointed to see him come back. He didn’t have anything back when he was in the UFC before. He just runs his mouth too much. I think he’s bad for the sport. He seemed to cause trouble back then, and I’m sure it’s going to be the same now. He already started off running off his mouth, giving Tito a bunch of crap. MFS and Team Punishment may have some problems, but Tito’s the man. He deserves all the respect in the ring. Tank has no reason to come back and start giving him crap when he hasn’t even fought. It might be a publicity thing too, which makes the sport grow. If that’s what it is... That’s what it is. Tank... I don’t think he belongs."

The Maurice Smith vs. Tank Abbott match pretty much says it all for me. Here's the Reader's Digest version:

Tank talks **** about Maurice, even throws in a few racial remarks for good measure.
Tank gets in the ring with Maurice.
Tank quits on his feet when Maurice starts Thai kicking the living hell out of him.
Tank hides from Maurice for the rest of the decade.

Pathetic. His fight with Pedro Rizzo was pretty much a repeat of the above scenario. Tank is a circus clown, entertainment for the redneck peckerwoods who still haunt the UFC.

Tank threw Maurice Smith around like he didnt even pose a THREAT. He punched him and then took him down. Tank took that fight with only THREE DAYS notice!

Tank took out Paul Varelans just as impressively as a PRIME Mark Kerr. He kicked the SHIZNITZ out of Don Frye before TRIPPING and FALLING. He MAULED Hugo Duarte.

Tank is a much better athlete than people want to admit. He can wrestle well AND he can hit like a MOTHERFUKKER.

Tanks character can draw FANS and make MONEY and for that reason ALONE Zuffa will make DAMN SURE Tank is in shape and ready. He studies submission, boxing and wrestling and has fought more times than most of the people currently in the UFC.

I think people are in for a shock tonight. He may NOT win, but he sure as hell will FIGHT.

What about his defense against leg kicks? Oh yeah, I remember, He doesn't have any! Plus, his record is, what, 8-7? If it was any other fighter, he wouldn't even be on the under-card. I will grant that he can be an entertaining interview, but that's it. He has some natural fighting ability and a big mouth. Big deal. Mir is no joke, and if Tank thinks he's going to man-handle him, he's on dope. Can Tank win? Sure, anything can happen. Mir could walk into a hard punch and that would be that. However, I think Mir will win, probably by decision.

(For those that didn't watch the UFC, Frank Mir tapped out Tank Abbott with a foot-lock 46 seconds into the first round.)
