Help with the high mount?

Did a search and didn't see anything, so apologies if this has already been covered.

I can see the high mount as a good way to keep from being bucked/swept off, but in my (limited) experience, it seems a little awkward.

What do you typically do from there? Maybe I get too high in it, but I almost feel off balance - too upright to rain down strikes, too far forward for any submissions.

Is it just a temporary position to keep from being bucked/swept, and then you go to something else?

I got high mount on a guy last wednesday. It was easy to get triangle from there (like pulling his head up and slipping a leg underneath so that ur in like a sitting triangle). Other than that I dunno what else I would do from there (b/c I am a bjj n00|3 - 2 month yaya)

Baltimore, eh? I used to live in Timonium. Where do you study BJJ? I never found any dedicated BJJ schools when I was there (moved to PA about a year ago).

Side mount? I am familiar with that, and much prefer it to the high mount.

So what's the deal with the high mount?

S-Mount is not side mount. Its like a transition stage to taking the armlock, kind of. I suck at explaining it, so I will let someone else.

the only way i have ever used high mount is to get the arm bar.

Thanks for the picture. I have used that position before, just like you said (before unrolling the armbar), but I did not know what it was called.

PS- I still suck at armbars. Is that considered grounds for removal from the brotherhood? Give me a keylock, or a RNC any day.

Johns Hopkins BJJ club. its a university club run by a purple belt under carlos machado

JHU.....dang. That's a bit too far for me to travel. I already do about 90 miles a day commuting to work from where I live.

My brother graduated from JHU in 1980. (computer engineering - wait, did they have computers back then?!)

I sucked at those until I drilled them over and over again on a dummy--about 50 times a day on both sides
