Dog Style Kung Fu?
Anyone ever heard of Dog style kung fu?
Taken from wikipedia
"Dog Kung Fu, i.e. Góuquán (狗拳), is a martial arts style from China. This is a southern style of Chinese boxing that specializes in takedowns and ground fighting. Often favoured by women, the fighter typically assumes a stance that requires that both hands and feet be on the ground, resembling a dog. This form of martial arts also teaches Iron Shirt, and Iron Palm fighting methods, as well as specialized leaping techniques. It is mainly practiced in Fujian Province."
Considering its wikipedia I was inclined to believe it was made up, however the following link seems to prove that their actually is a style of kungfu devoted to groundfighting.
http://cclib.nsu.ru/projects/satbi/s...u/gouquan.html
The following place has some info as well but theirs now way in hell I'm paying 10 pounds for a couple of articles and vids.

Real style. Pretty rare. Known for groundfighting. No one I know has ever seen it. Supposed to come out of Fukien.

This style does interest me from the curiosity angle. There is an overpriced book on it by some Chinese Sifu in bookshops over here. I’ve browsed it several times but like I said, it’s overpriced.
Going by the book the style is mainly about fighting from the ground against a standing opponent. It involves lots of flash kicking –scissors etc, and acrobatic ways of regaining standing. There were some leg locks etc but they didn’t look particularly credible in the set-up. There was no indication of any credible ground grappling. The moves depicted where not relevant for if someone is mounting you for GnP. So yes you could call it “ground fighting” in the general sense, but it’s not something I’d rate either for SD or MMA. (IMO).

I've never actually seen it, but I read an old book (written in like 1940?) whose name escapes me at the moment about a guy who when to China and cataloged the diffferent martial arts he could find.
The book mentioned 'Dog Boxers' and from the descriptions, it was very much a grappling style.
I distinctly remember one of the other Kung fu guys said the best way to fight a 'dog boxer' was to throw rocks at him.

i remember someone once telling me that it was (basically) for when youve been knocked to the ground, you are on your back and you use your legs to kick / defend yourself until you can get back to your feet (so youre kind of like a dog when youre tickling its tummy?)
may be bs though

speaking of dog style kung fu. Does anyone have the video clip of 2 dogs playing with subtitles saying things like sweep guard pass etc. I think originally it was on Roy Harris's site. Since I do BJJ and now have a dog I would really appreciate the clip.

I actually have the book. It is, in fact, a horrible marriage of open guard work and WC anti-grappling. As in, yknow, get down antigrapple NOW AND DON'T FORGET THE CHAIN KICKS ALL OVER HIS DUMB FACE HAUGLAGLAGLAG
The one mount escape consists of bridging the other person WITH YOUR SHOULDERS, straight over your head.
