    Hang from a pullup bar, keeping your arms straight, raise your knees up so they touch your elbows. You will be almost upside down, then slowly lower back down.

    the dude i live gets me to throw a 6kg medicine ball at his stomach while he lies on the ground, he swears by it.... he does have a very strong mid section

    How intense is your ab routine now?

    Before anyone reccomends any routine its good to know what you've already tried and/or are currently trying.

    If you're just looking to up your crunches then buy a handled medicine ball and use it in your ab workouts. Thats usually a very good start to an inceased ab program and its going to make your midsection tighter and more developed.

    A very simple thing to increase tension is to brace your feet, lay the ball on your abs and grip the handles. As you rise take turns shifting the ball from one side of your body to the other, returning it to your center when you complete the movement. It adds weight and helps work your obliques.

    Over the years I've noticed that with most people abs aren't like weights, meaning the more resistance you get the more you build. It seems to work like that for some people but a majority get better results by working their abs more frequently.

    we used to do that at TKD, except we would use the 11 pounders.

    I have a related question: would excercising your back also help in this type of situation? My thinking is that it would allow you to tense your abs more without leaning forward, thereby making them harder. I've noticed that my abs show more definition when I am just getting up from a prostrate position than when I just try to flex them. Should I do more back exercises?
