anyone got any good suggestions for exercises that wont screw my back up, i cant do loads of crunches etc , due to a recurring back problem. I do a fair few back exercises to keep the strength in it, but as yet i cant find anything for abs that isnt just counter productive in terms of pain.

Well, seems to me that TaeBo Master advice on this thread is appropiate.
