    Hey,

    First I should explain the situation, I have only been doing Judo for a month and a half so I know not to expect to much.

    There is this guy in my club, that is probably a few stone heavier than me. When we begin ground work we take grips and he forces me on my back and thats that. Scarf hold is on and I cant move.

    So I was just wondering, when I am taking grips what else I can do? I was thinking I could duck under one arm, but I am not sure.

    Any advice would be great.

    Alright, the kesa is one of the easiest holds to get out of in Judo imho. It depends on your size in relation to the person on what you should do. What I do is tuck my chin, and try and get my leg over thier legs and use that as a lever to get out of the hold and take thier back. You can also just straight up shrimp out, or depending where thier weight is roll them over.
    Also, when he forces you back put him in your guard or move off to his side.
    And that's when I figured out that tears couldn't make somebody who was dead alive again. There's another thing to learn about tears, they can't make somebody who doesn't love you any more love you again. It's the same with prayers. I wonder how much of their lives people waste crying and praying to God. If you ask me, the devil makes more sense than God does. I can at least see why people would want him around. It's good to have somebody to blame for the bad stuff they do. Maybe God's there because people get scared of all the bad stuff they do. They figure that God and the Devil are always playing this game of tug-of-war game with them. And they never know which side they're gonna wind up on. I guess that tug-of-war idea explains how sometimes, even when people try to do something good, it still turns out bad.

    The way I always escape kesa is to wrap my arms around my opponent and grab my opposite arm, then bridge and pull him over my head as I twist my body towards his back. It's worked every time so far.

    Another method, though more difficult, is to swing both your legs towards your opponent's position to generate momentum. Use this momentum to roll your body towards your opponent and effectively turn your body over. From there you can continue your roll, grab his arm, and end up in an armpit armbar.
    This motion with the legs is difficult if you've not done it before. It's identical to the "ground flower" technique in many kung fu styles.
