I work as a professional strength/fitness consultant, not just a MA instructor; the key is to maximize your strength in the basic functional-strength exercises (bench press, squat, deadlift, lat pull and overhead press). Aside from this, I'd recommend increasing arm/forearm strength through wrist-curls and finger-curls (hang from a lat-pull bar by your fingertips and try to curl them in; if you can do your bodyweight with one hand, you're in good shape.Hey I'm new to this forum, i've been doing MA's for bout 6 years (Boxing,Shotokan,Judo) and i have never done anything other than body weight excersises for strength and endurance. I plan to start lifting weights to improve my performance could someone plz outline a routine that would improve my striking + grappling ability thanks.
(I'm not sure if this matters but I'm 16 150pounds 6 feet tall)
Also work on your neck-strength.
As for striking, this is also done by technique, so you have to work out on a heavybag for maximum power and speed; also try hitting solid objects with light force just to get the feel of doing it safely.
As in all of the above, concentrate first on form as well as power; don't believe that just raw volume of practice will improve you. -

Neck exercises especially are a confusing matter. Everyone has a different opinion on what you should do.
Some say use a harness, others say harness too dangerous.
Any tips or exercises?
