Three. One night is half takedowns half ground work, one is vale tudo, and the other is all groundwork.

    Here's a novel fucking idea:
    Learn to pass guard.

Crap, just saw your next post. Stop reading on the internet how to do things you're not capable of doing and actually train for awhile. And footlocks will stunt your growth (see above)

Go to more classes. Ask your instructor. The Internet is a horrible place to learn to fight.

I'm going to as many classes as I possibly can, and I got a couple of good tips for the ankle lock which I'll be trying tommorow. So I'm happy :)

You have a lot to work on before you even think about footlocks.

I hope someone can-openers you really hard for fun.

Look, forget trying for random submissions you really haven't learned yet. Find someone in the class to work basic positions and transitions with you. You're wasting your time there when you could be learning if you just start throwing random footlocks from inside an open or closed guard.
When I started I had a really good purple tell me that for the first three months I shouldn't even try a submission (that's only a little bit of hyperbole), that I should just work position. I listened, just not as well as I should have.
Do yourself a favor and try and learn, don't try and "win".

You missed the forest for one little anemic tree.
Before you even do that you also need to learn the basics. Learning to pass the guard safely and effectively (which is most simply getting by their legs to side control or mount) is one of the best things you can do, either for bjj or I'm told for mma.
The fact that you aren't familiar with even that term indicates you are in no way ready to start emphasizing a particular set of subs.

Trying to work for foot locks before even learning how to pass the guard is like trying for a Knock out before knowing how to make a fist.

I'm fully aware that I need to concentrate on positioning for the next few years. The only time I have attempted to sub anyone other than a friend I started with is when I'm sitting in someones open guard with their shin hooked under my arm, at that moment it feels like I might aswell make a go of it.
