German zoo says penguins can stay gay
A German zoo which suspects its entire male penguin population might be gay has now said the birds can remain as same-sex couples.

Humboldt penguins are an endangered species. So when the six humboldts in Bremerhaven failed to breed, the zoo became concerned.

The penguins had been observed trying to mate with each other, and spent months sitting on stones trying to get them to hatch.

Tests revealed all six penguins were male, so the zoo flew in four females from Sweden.

Director Heike Kück said they wanted to see if the birds were really gay, or just lacking in opportunities.

Gay groups around the world deluged the zoo with angry emails and phone calls. The zoo now says its penguins have shown no interest in the new arrivals.

They say the same sex couples are too well-established, and the males can remain gay if they choose.

How did they not know the birds gender beforehand? And is this really something they need to "test" for? I'd think just parting a few feathers would give you a good idea, but just shows you what I know about penguins...

Now are all those female penguins going to start getting it on :love8:

For whatever reasons, birds are harder to determine the sex of. In fact, I think 15% of birds have both sets of sexual organs, if I recall correctly. There's actually a job where a person looks at a bird's privates (the cloaca, if I recall) to determine its sex.

German "gay" penguins spark protest

BERLIN (Reuters) - A plan by a German zoo to test the sexual appetites of a group of suspected homosexual penguins has sparked outrage among gay and lesbian groups, who fear zookeepers might force them to turn straight.

"All sorts of gay and lesbian associations have been e-mailing and calling in to protest," said a spokesman for the zoo in the northwestern city of Bremerhaven on Friday.

He said the zoo concluded the penguins might be gay after seeing male penguins trying to mate with other males and trying to hatch offspring out of stones.

German media reported that female Swedish penguins would be brought to the zoo to test the theory, but when word got out about the plan, the phones started ringing.

"Nobody here is trying to break-up same sex pairs by force," the zoo's director Heike Kueck told public broadcaster NDR. "We don't know if the three male pairs are really gay or just got together because of a lack of females."

So gay/lesbian activists are up in arms because zoo officials are determining if the penguins are gay by putting a female in the tank?

A quick Google search for "Gay Lesbian Germany Problems" turns up:

* Heightened rates of suicide among GLBT people
* Same-sex marriage legislation
* Adoption legislation for same-sex families

And by intuition, issues with the propagation of far-right parties that are angling to be modern Nazis.

And yet, the possibility that the male penguins may have just been engaging in sex-play with each other, and would prefer to have females gets them up in arms?

Its obvious to me that Steve has issues with Homosexuality, or penguins, or tuxedos, either way, watch yourself mister !!
