Is BJJ just a fad?

You don't think has? You don't think there are those that just know that jiu-jitsu is the bomb without even knowing there is a difference between BJJ and JJJ?

At any rate, JJJ is not nearly as popular as Judo so it is just one obscure MA for another between those two as opposed to Judo which is a common MA.

There is nothing to support that contention.

Please refrain from posting on this topic until you back up that contention or admit you were wrong. And don't say you didn't say that, you clearly have, numerous times.

Also please pm deadpan scientist with your vitals (re: education) he is in a better position to assess and investigate them than is phrost who is too busy anyway.

If you think there's been a mass influx of jjj students based on the popularity of bjj, you're even dumber than I thought. Has there been a couple of people? Sure. Can you call it a trend? No.

So so our faceless martial arts novice wants to learn any martial art in the world. He happens to watch a Sherdog highlight reel of Royce Gracie and thinks "Wow, I want to fight like him." He goes and finds a BJJ school and starts taking classes.

BUT ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE PLOT THICKENS!

He comes on Bullshido and reads this very thread, and learns the shocking truth that BJJ is just Kosen judo. His dreams of uniqueness are crushed, and he loses all faith in the Gracies.

He leaves BJJ, now knowing The Truth and...

What? Goes to Kodokan judo? Tries to find a sambo school? The popularity of BJJ decreases how?

The only way I can see that happening is if the student feels he has been lied to. Suppose students of a particular school (doesn't need to be BJJ) were told from day one that their sensei invented the style and it turned out he lied. I can see a downside.
