Is BJJ just a fad?

I voted no because BJJ is becoming less and less useful, everyone even non-grapplers now know the basic counters.
Many times brute force tactics (from less skilled exponents) have been proven to work against BJJ, its very susceptible to simple G&P from strikers.

Fad suggests that it will go away eventually. Not going to happen -- it's too effective as the ground supplement for stand-up arts that don't have the ****. It will drop in popularity, yes. But it's here to stay.

I'd like to formally ask W00tang Warrior and Jeice what reasoning brought them to their choice.

my opinion is outside the actual style of BJJ and more about media and politics.
No one with experience against a skilled BJJ exponent will deny its effectiveness at what it does, but since the incredibly vast majority of nutriders and fanboys have very little experience but are completely sold on BJJ being "1337 d34dly,"
it gets a "fad" aspect because uneducated morons are leaping on the bandwagon. Same as was seen with ninja's, shaolin, and good old Krotty.

Its just humanities "flavor of the week" mentality, unfortunately it robs whatever it latches onto of most of its uniqueness (what made it "fad" material) in the process.
Nothing against BJJ, just watching the trends.

I used to think it was a fad until we had some BJJ guys join our dojo and grapple with us, they showed us things I had never seen before. I think it's very usefull if you want a good ground game, it teaches you a lot of reversals, counters, attacks, etc.

But then again, some martial artists take it as a fad and think it's the greatest thing in self defense yet.

BJJ is an improvement on an old institution. thats why its new and a fad. someone will eventually (or is) improving on BJJ and it will be the new fad.

itll be great cuz then bjj will be viewed as like tmas are viewed now. and tmas will be viewed as how WC is apparently being viewed on this site.
