Half the Ezekiel - Twice the Bitch

My offering to Ronin and Shuma, who whore the Ezekiel like 4-month white belts.

I was sparring with brown belt Mean Jeff last night and he pulled a move you might find interesting. I recall it quite vividly, as it had me coughing up my mouth guard.

While setting up the ezekiel choke, rather than sliding the top hand across with fingers out, make a fist and jam it into their trachea. Then laugh maniacally as they gag on your knuckles digging into their throat.

Works best from mount, or dominant half guard, so you can drive your body weight into it.

Just thought I would share a way of making the Ezekiel choke an even bigger bitch than it was before.

i googled a bit into it ...
why is it named like that (ezekiel)? i remember an angel called "ezekiel" from reading the bible ... but i don't know if that was the "choking-"angel ... i thought that was azazel or something.

Old technique indeed, and it doesn't work from guard or half-guard. From mount, it's good, but it exposes you to being rolled since it ties up both hands near the head.

On a similar note, has anyone had luck with Ezekiel chokes in no-gi?

Gene LeBell teaches a "type" of Ezikel, and I have tried it, not as good as with a gi, less leverage and grip, but not bad.

Someone tried a no-gi Ezekiel one me and I sat in it just to see if it would work, and it did until I, you know, moved.

It works by apply pressure on the close side of the top arm, rather than the opposite side of the top arm, you grab the wrist of forearm, rather than gi sleeve, and apply pressure by pressing the top hand down and the forearm under the head up and towards you, to "wedge" the neck in.
