    Paying for an introductory class.

I did a search and could not find anything on this subject. So here goes. Are there any good reasons why a school would charge for an introductory class? A school I’m interested in charges $20 to try them out. The $20 goes towards the monthly fees if I choose to join. Is there a good argument for this practice, or is this just BS. Thanks –john

BTW this is the school: http://www.newkungfu.com/Default.htm

They charge $20 at my gym, Alliance martial arts. There are space restrictions and they don't want a lot of lower class individuals coming in and learning martial arts to commit crimes with.

Personally, I would advise against it.

I had a look at their website. Nothing out of the box really.

They charged us 20 bucks for our first roll around because we still lived in tennessee at the time. if you're a resident of the area, it's free.

Alliance must really be t3h deadly. After only 1 lesson you can successfuly mug people!

If it's a real busy school, then I can understand it. At my school we're running out of room, too. If a bunch of n00bs come in to try it out and explode because they can't handle it, then it's just a waste of space for us. And of course you can't just jump into the technique of the day, you have to teach them "This is guard. This is how you-- hey, don't laugh, it's really a position!" yadda yadda. It gets annoying.

No, it actually scanned as "kid just posted something out of character which I would expect from a silly middle class girl who believes Elmore-like reasons why her gym has to charge _alot_ for a trial class in order to keep 'undesirables' out".

Does that make it clearer ?

It can be a bit of a red flag that a club charges for an intro lesson ... but it's hardly definative. COuld be great training. If you can afford it, try it.
