Not bashing because I'm sure that he isn't a fair representation of the average to good BJJ practitioner but I thought I'd tell my story. Hell I didn't even use my training.

Preface: Scott has done BJJ for about six months. He's about 5'9" 180 pounds. I'm 6'1" 260. I've had about 3 years of boxing experience, a little over 1 year in TKD, I've never been trained to wrestle just whatever I've learned from messing around with friends.

Well Scott is going through a divorce. We had him over our apartment with some other friends just hanging out trying to keep him occupied. Things take a turn for the worst when he starts being a dick to everyone there. Long story short, after he has disrespected everyone there and it was obvious that he wasn't going to quit, I asked him to leave. He says he'll leave when he is ready and I couldn't make him leave. So I walked over to escort him out and he jumps into his "ready stance". Before I could say anything he attempts to "shoot" my legs. (Forgive me if my terminology is wrong) I repositioned my feet and "sprawled??" on top of him. At this point it was uneventful. He was pinned face down and I just repositioned myself on top of him until he tired out. I picked him up at that point and carried him out the door. I feel sorry for him because I know this is a direct result of the troubles he's going through with the divorce and living out of his suitcase but you don't disrespect a man in his home either. I will say this though. I forgot how much wrestling can tire you out.

Maybe not Osiris. Obviously I didn't want to either. He was open to all kinds on knees to the head at one point. After some repositioning I could have easily pummeled him. I'm sure we both realized that if we were to reamin friends certain lines couldn't be crossed.

Yes it piss me off when a TMAist tell me that I cannot last whole round in K1 or Muay Thai. Once my sparring partner go as far as trying to sign me up for K1 because I told him that if I can last three round in wrestling, I will be able to last three or more round in TMA without much difficult. He didn't listen like as usually, so I end up got really pissed off and tell him if he is that dumb then he better show up for mix of strikes, ground fighting, and wrestling.

So he did and he is good at striking (actually kicking my ass some what) until he realized that he is extremely vulnerable on ground. I just put a lot of weight and pressure on him and it worn him out QUICKLY. After that, he admit that he was wrong about wrestling.

The sprawl is just that effective sometimes. Probably, the guys realised he couldn't try anything without hurting you, or he was drunk or something. Or, and this seems a strong possibilty, you out-fought him in exactly the way you should have.

    Good work, dude.

From that position I don't really know how to submit someone. Beyond bludgening I have no real technique on the ground. I've heard of triangle chokes, armbars, etc but I really have no idea how to apply them. To put it simple I just tried to control his legs so he couldn't get good leverage, keep his hands off my extrimities, and as he shifted his weight I tried to counter. That's it. I'm sure, to a point, he didn't want to hurt me as much as I didn't want to hurt him. There was no drinking involved.
