well I'll need to try it out sometime to see what you mean...but I mean if you just tense and grab hold of the person's wrists/grab at the joints?

Would they still be able to bounce your arms about..?

<img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>) I'm looking for ways to negate that centerline/inside attack option without having to do 3 years of stickyhands training.
The centreline idea is not exclusive to one style as such. In WC we try to keep control over this fine line, though there are exceptions to the rule. However most of the direct styles fight along this line obviously.

Sticky hands practise in application will only last a fraction of a second. When we train this in WC it is for that one moment when the attack is interrupted and we have to redirect, realing etc. It is very rare unless against a very skilled opponent that the sticky hands practise will come into play.

As far as defeating someone who has mastery over the centre line is concerned, you will need to understand what they are doing. You will need to protect your own centre and not leave it open. You will also need to make sure that they are not in a situation where they are in control over your centre of gravity. For them this can be as simple as merely standing in the right place and it will have you off balance due to the way you are standing. A boxing take on things will help greatly to be able to resist such tactics. Out of all styles boxing is the one that I personally fear the most.

You can go for takedowns, but it is bad to rely on one thing. I prefer the philosphy of the right thing at the right time by automatic response. In other words do not force any particular strategy. This may seem strane coming from a WC guy. But then in application WC is pretty much formless relying on basic principles to retain structure. Not understanding that structure is like a house built on a soft mud foundation.

Ok, obviously some of you are incapable of reading.

NO GOING TO GROUND ON THIS. It's sparring guys and gals, not fighting. I'm talking strategy instead of techniques. (Thanks to LeungJan and a others who actually gave answers.)

I'm hoping a WC guy can explain better than I...although in this case it wasn't just sticky hands, it was overall hand speed and the rotating/alternating hand placements. (Yeah, ok, fine, mainly sticky hands...LOL!)
