Messed up Robert Bussey story

I bought a copy of a book called "Brawl" at Borders while I was in Minneapolis. I'm almost done with it and would recommend it to anyone looking to find out more about MMA.

One chapter talks about UFC II. Rorion Gracie felt that there weren't enough bloodbaths in the original UFC. So, he told (then) first time referee Big John McCarthy that matches could only end one of two ways: either a fighter taps out or his corner throws in the towel. Relunctantly, BJM went along with it.

I'm sure many of you saw the bout between Pat Smith and Scott Morris. Well, I guess the rules had been explained to the fighters and their cornermen. Bussey was in Morris' corner during that fight. As soon as Morris started getting the ever living **** beat out of him, BJM told Bussey to throw in the towel. Bussey told BJM to **** off and threw the towel into the stands. Pat Smith let off of Morris when he knew he was finished. This was all according to BJM.

I've heard Brawl is really good.
Will have to order a copy from somewhere.

Man, that is messed up. I don't know what he was thinking, but if I was in someone's corner, I'd feel a duty to throw in the towel if they were in the ****. I didn't see the fight, but if it's like you said, it'd probably be way beyond the point before his guy would have any capacity to turn it around or regret having given up.

The final was disapointing, Royce didn't even sub him. I remember Smith tapping from mount punches.

Yeah, it was disappointing, but it seemed to take a few more tournaments before non-ground-grapplers started to believe they weren't automatically f**cked as soon as they were on the bottom. I don't remember the fight very well, but didn't Gary Goodridge tap out pretty much the same way a couple of UFCs later?

The pucnhes were actually the thing which really got the ninjitsu practitioner, the elbows were just to make sure (he was already finished from the punches..)

FingerOrMoon, one thing I don't like about the book is that the majority of it is play-by-play descriptions of many UFC bouts. If you've already seen the bouts the authors describe, it might get annoying for you too. But like I said, it IS very informative. There's also an interesting story about Buddy Albin that would take me a long time to type up.

I just remember something else I didn't care for. Several matches are mentioned that the authors neglect to tell the reader were worked.
