Oh. Good, it's not just me and my computer.
Maybe they got sick of all the political and OT bullshit. It's sucked ass for a couple of months, anyway.
This place is much better.

Actually, this brings up a good question. This board gets pretty contentious quite often (as I well know) and I only recently came very close to leaving entirely. I was lured back by a well-timed qi thread that turned out to be basically inarguable...ah well.
Anyway, my point is that I've taken a look at the other forums that deal with related subjects, and can't imagine why on earth I would want to get involved. Sherdog's forums are ridiculous MMA lovefests or flamewars between people who have crushes on different fighters. It's like Teen Beat or something. ADCC and some of the other grappling type forums seem like a waste. Like I post a BJJ question or something and it would just be, "Sweet dude BJJ rules." Likewise, some of the TMA forums are pathetic magic-fests. Someone like me, primarily interested in resurrecting the real spirit of the TMAs, has little interest in going on there and participating in any of the many Dim Mak or 10 hit Tekken Combo threads. I think E-Budo seems okay, but then again, not quite.
I like this site because MOST of the participants seem relatively open-minded, but they DIFFER significantly from one another. I think the many grapplers on here are the most open-minded (wink).

Edited by - The Wastrel on February 17 2003 11:34:53Normally, I'd say I was grappling, but I was taking down and mounting people, and JFS has kindly informed us that takedowns and being mounted are neither grappling nor anti grappling, so I'm not sure what the **** I was doing. Maybe schroedinger's sparring, where it's neither grappling nor anti-grappling until somoene observes it and collapses the waveform, and then I RNC a cat to death.----fatherdog -

I've had more enlightening conversations -- and more fun, silly, goofy stuff -- here then any other board I was ever on. Now I don't really post anywhere else except sporadically. Here, I feel like something lasting could grow.
Maybe I'm just being a sentimental girly, though. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Yeah, I used to post on The Underground at MMA.TV but I ran into the same lovefest/flamewar **** you did. A sense of humor was definitely not encouraged. At least you get the sense here that you could arrange to train with some of the forum members or just meet to have a beer or two and it would be no big deal. I also like the fact that people post here from all over the globe.
And you're right about the grapplers being 'open-minded' (wink, wink, nudge, nudge).
"Go cry about it Vargas. Aren't you late for your shift at McDonald's?""I had once talked to Billy Conn, the boxer, about professionals versus amateurs - specifically street fighters. One had always heard rumors of champions being taken out by back-alley fighters. Conn was scornful. "Aw, it's like hitting a girl," he said. "They're nothing."

Thanks, Dan.
Way to make me feel like a dick for the way I talked to you over on the "Bruce and Speed" thread.
What is it about you, dude? You bring out my inner wolverine or something.
