    Hell yeah! Hell no!

Which is more effective and safe to do a carotid choke or a throat choke

After having done, and seen both done.

I would like to know which is safer and which prodcues a faster response ( unconciousness....)

I would say applying both from the rear naked position.

I'm not a grappler but have used and seen it used during my previous occupation (Loss Prevention), recently realising that I could have accidentally killed somebody from not knowing what the F I was doing...

I won't use one until someone teaches me but I want to know its effectivenss or I'm about to die.

Blood chokes are the most effective, you can usually put someone out in 10 seconds or less with a good blood choke, because it's cutting off the blood to your brain and produces almost immediate unconsciousness. Oxygen chokes (or throat chokes, as you call them), cutt off the air and need to be applied for a few to several minutes before they'll go down. Blood chokes are the best, but they're the ones you have to be careful of: hold on for too long and you can give someone brain damage or worse.

I wish I could recall the time after which there is permanent brain damage.

I do recall brain death at about 6 minutes.

Actually, throat chokes have been documented to be more dangerous due to the possibilty of collapsing the trachea. When "Sleeper" chokes were used by many law enforcement groups, most of the deaths from them came from "throat" chokes rather than carotid chokes.

I think blood chokes are safer, in general, because the people that use them know what they are doing, as opposed to an officer that just got his hand to hand instruction in the police academy and never practiced since.

How fast did he go out? Real quick or did he take his time?

That would hvae to be a throat choke.

Blood chokes take less than 10 seconds according to pubmed.
