How many times has this topic been made?

Remember the time in the 6th grade where you got your ass-kicked by that 80-pound short-kid? Got BJJ?

Personally, I think that the best school to prepare yourself for the street is Thunder Ranch or LFI. But that's probably not an option if you live in Kalifornia. By the way, those are places to learn combat firing. I feel that martial arts is the second handiest thing next to a well made firearm.

From everything I've read from its practitioners, Krav Maga seems like a watered-down MMA with emphasis upon 'deadly tactics' including eye gouges, nut shots, biting, etc, with some weapon disarms and training, in addition to some awareness stuff.
On paper it sounds good, but in practice it's designed to appeal to the TKD crowd. Don't take my word for it, go over to their boards at www.kravmaga.com and see what they say.
I don't know too much about the stand-up, but the ground work they described was ****. As in, the 'What the **** do they think they're doing' kind of ****. The official KM closed guard pass is to attack the groin. From closed guard, the guy on bottom has a better chance of attacking your groin than you do of attacking his, by reaching under his legs and ass and grabbing. The unofficial stuff, like reaching back for a twisting ankle lock, was worse. Can you say Kimura?
Considering that the head instructor supposedly trains BJJ, and supposedly challenged Rigan and John Machado to Vale Tudo in about '96 and got his ass kicked but good, this is very interesting.
If you really want to learn something for the street, try boxing or Muay Thai if you want striking, BJJ if you want groundwork. Train in a style that specialises in it's chosen area of combat rather than the Jack of All Trades and A Master of None that Krav Maga seems to be. -

If you're looking to train in one system only then >>> Submission Fighting <<< (also know as "Shootfighting", "Vale Tudo", "Pancrase" or "Mixed Martial Arts" which are all practically the same thing if not the same thing.)
[ Oh, and as "Asia" is here "BAJI!" too ;) :P. ]
You could also train in a striking art i.e. Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai etc. and at the same time/seperately train in a grappling system i.e. Submission Wrestling/shootwrestling, Judo, Sambo or BJJ. You could also do Submission Fighting at the same time..

At least mine were fairly original.
**The most miraculous power that can verifiably be attributed to "chi" is its ability to be all things to virtually all people, depending on what version of the superstition they are attempting to defend at any given moment.**Normally, I'd say I was grappling, but I was taking down and mounting people, and JFS has kindly informed us that takedowns and being mounted are neither grappling nor anti grappling, so I'm not sure what the **** I was doing. Maybe schroedinger's sparring, where it's neither grappling nor anti-grappling until somoene observes it and collapses the waveform, and then I RNC a cat to death.----fatherdog
