    When standing on two feet and reaching with one hand the opposite foot must come off the ground if you keep reaching. Lifting the knee could be used as a block in many situations, but in this case its most likely a style thing.

    This is a PERFORMANCE stance. Has NOTHING to do with fighting and anybody who ever tried to use it in a fight is retarded.

    I didn't say it was for fighting. It is a performance stance, and the balance part is not nonsense, because lifting the knee is better than just leaving the leg straight and hanging there.

    Edge, you gave hypothetical applications for that leg, therefore elluding to it's usefullness in fighting.

    drummerboy is justified in reaching the ramafications of your statement.

    Reaching for punches is also not advised, one should not rest their distancing on picking up a leg. Also, I never heard of blocking a kick by raising a leg in any CMA. Not to say it never happens, but it has to be rare.

    That posture would only come in to play in training, or, maybe, perhaps, if the situation necessitated in a multiple opponent, no other choice, no other alternative scenario.

    WHAT? Crane stance ring a bell?

    It's a pretty standard long-fist application to block low roundhouse kicks.

    I was taught to block kicks with the arms, keep the legs firmly on the ground. Lifting a leg leaves you vulnerable as well as off ballance.
