Judo-Kid: Don't worry about it. The more ignorant people there are out there, the better of a fighter you are.

Let them be ignorant, that just means that you know something they don't.

Why did the rules at the UFC change so dramatically after the first few? Because the "no eye-gouging or hair-pulling but anything else goes" favored the BJJ guys so much, ground was dominating and -- newsflash -- GROUND WORK IS BORING IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS. I.e., if you aren't a MMA'er or at least knowledgeable, it just looks like "two guys fall down and hug each other a lot".

That's why ground work will never be big in movies. It's boring.

Jet Li rules! And Jackie Chan's cool also. Somehow everyone in my family does martial arts and can still enjoy watching movies with out undo harm. It's like the cartoon of a bunch of karate kids asking their instructor when do we learn the flying slow motion stuff? Jet Li is a fantastic athlete and I like to use the slow-mo on the video machine to figger out techniques-used it with Bruce Lee also.

Its fun and entertaining, and from a limited standpoint educational. Re: what pat said regarding using the slowmo and realizing that he did a pretty standard front kick, just that it was done from one arm.

To use analogy I used to play water polo. For those that ever came out to the games to watch, or even when I'd watch other games at tourney's its pretty damn boring. The play isn't that fast compared to running (soccer) and its pretty damn hard to tell what's going on as you can rarely see below the chest on any player. Not a great spectator sport because so much is going on under the water: hooking, dunking, hitting, kicking, scratching, ripping suits etc. This is pretty comparable to many grappling matches. they're not very entertaining form an entertainment perspective.

I still think striking is more interesting. MAybe its that whole movie sterotype hero thing that give them skinny peices of crap kids who practice dbz ki style there so call power over the ignorant masses. Is it me or when they see they big guy who's 6'2" and all muscle bound they thing slow and a bully. Its hard to see a tall martial artist who isn't a bully and picks on people, is me or is it the 5'5" guys who get all the glory?

I'm not sure I understand your question. Or your post, really.

Normally, I'd say I was grappling, but I was taking down and mounting people, and JFS has kindly informed us that takedowns and being mounted are neither grappling nor anti grappling, so I'm not sure what the **** I was doing. Maybe schroedinger's sparring, where it's neither grappling nor anti-grappling until somoene observes it and collapses the waveform, and then I RNC a cat to death.----fatherdog
