    Apply the following modification:
Move your hands from behind his head to the top of his head and apply some pressure.

there some gi chokes that use the half nelson to fnish on the lock for that choke not sure what it is called but the full nelson half nelson and the banana split all should be learned as there will be a time when itll be needed.

Use it as a chance to get your hooks in and get rear mount. Then as they break their head free there should be a nice opening for a gi choke reaching across the neck.

You can get an RNC in the same way from both hands cupping the back of the neck in a half nelson.

You can break someone's neck with a full nelson. Not the type you learn in high school but a combat full nelson.

Its a very dangerous technique and I wont explain how to do it because its sole purpose is to break someones neck and a strong guy can pull it off pretty easily if he knows how.

You can probably find the move I'm talking about on a good sambo instructional. I think Gokor might have shown it.

Hey Orisis, why don't wrestlers use full nelsons? Why on earth are they banned?

I just don't understand it?!?!?! It's just a pain thing. Just some pressure on the neck. Pffft. Deal with it.

Could it be like a...hmmm...crossface sorta thing, where if you take it to far you might break something? Oh I dunno. Like a crossface might break a nose or a jaw? Jesus those wrestlers are big bitches for not...let me try to remember....ahem... finishing the fight.

Ya feeling the hypocrisy here? Or is my sarcasm too much?

The full nelson can be easily turned into a very reliable submission.
If I have a guys back with my hooks in but he has gotten low relative to me in an attempt to slide out the back door I go for the full nelson.
But now that my hands are behind his neck I turn them over so the back of my hands are pressed against him.One hand behind his neck, the other behind the loweest part of the back of his head.
My hands reach deep so my right hand is kind of enough around so it is starting to go around to the left side of his head.
I now push my hands away driving his head forward which stretches his shoulders severly.
The reason the common full nelson is not a submission is because the fingers interlock behind the head preventing the hands from reaching further through. Also most try to keep their arms tight to the victims ribs when if you keep your elbows further apprt you keep his arms stuck out as if he's in a stocks submission.

The full nelson I learned was a neck break. The only difference with the sub version is intent and hand placement. Like PD said, it is not to difficult to seriously injure someone with it.
