    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    Cross-facing.

Here defined as a catch-all term used to describe any grappling technique involving pressuring the arm to the face or throat to cause extreme discomfort.

Generally, I crossface if I'm in an inferior position and need to create space, though also if I'm trying to sink a RNC and dude tucks his chin.

Only do it defensively against takedowns. And I don't crossface if I can't get a RNC. The guys I train with are friendly. I don't need to go messing up their face. Its training - not a fight. The same reason I don't bend fingers or drive my knee into your groin when passing.

In competition the rules change. I can, will, and have no problems crossfacing, smashing, or even kneeriding a head. I don't know you. I don't care anything about you. You are an obstacle to the finals. If you won't submit with technique, I will force you to submit with pain. If you tuck your chin, too bad. If you play possum in my guard I'll frame up across your face and grind/push until you do something.

So there is no absolute answer for me. I choose option A on the poll. Defensively only. But like I said that is relative to the environment I am in. If I am training and someone crossfaces me, well - then they should expect it. And in competition I am not nearly as friendly as in training.

Hmm.. You guys have a different definition of crossfacing than I do.

Mine is basically when someone palms or forearrms to the side of my face when crossing over to key lock, mount from the side, etc. This is what people did when I wrestled in highschool and some people that have done BJJ with me have tried it.

I don't do that. That causes me to want to start GnP'ing people. Everything else though is pretty much fine. Give me pressure.

That's why I specified my definition.

Oh, and this question applies primarily to training, since you obviously spend significantly more time doing that than competing.

I only cross face from the bottom, unless I'm trying to submit someone with a cross face neck crank from behind, which isn't often, I try not to be an asshole. My old instructor would cross face neck crank everybody all the time, that's the only reason I ever thought of doing it.

I crossface after sprawling. I also do it from the referee's position when I can't think of a move to use.
