I use fook sau as underhook/overhooks , same priciple and application, works in different ranges, people widely misuse and misunderstand fook sau.

I do agree that _ing _un as its taught is mostly utter crap and deserves all the flack it gets.
awesome av. i want a santa gi
There are lots of places and rulesets you can spar under where WC tactics wouldn't be broken up.

Wing chun is nasty. It uses eye gouges, finger strikes, sinking/iron palms and elbows. Not many sports that you could use these.
Even in the UFC, most of these techniques are banned.
Who did Ip Chun ever have a challenge match with ? in his own book he says he's never had a fight and he didn't even take up martial arts until his late 30's.
Wing chun was not designed to spar. Yip Man never did sparring, Ip Chun never did sparring. They used the wing chun in challenge fights which is about as close as it gets.
That depends on the level of contact.
The whole concept of sparring is not to hurt your opponent, but rather try to 'play' and find weaknesses, improve footwork, etc.
I appreciate that you aren't training to be the person initiating the fight, but what about lateral movement, finding good attacking angles etc ? surely this all depends on good footwork ?
In wing chun, you shouldn't need to improve your footwork!! You are dragging the fight out if you approach someone with your hands up and try to box him.

You have pretty much zero information in your profile. All it says is that you train WC. No mention of a school or even a city or state.
Please, eye gouging is as usefull in an arguement about as much as a a hand gun is. Leave it alone. It could work, but you better be able to defend everything else in the style as well. To many threads spin off on eye poking tagent, and always result to siteing ONE MMA event as scientific proof they are useless.
Now back to the discussion of Deer Boxing.

A brief scan through the site and I'd say it looks pretty good.
An endorsement from Jeff Thompson ranks pretty high in my book and I noticed that the students pictured are not the typical pasty faced pencil necks you so often see at WC schools. The BJJ brown belt also says fuckloads but unlike some people I tend to read it as telling me that this guy has realistic ideas about what other people are doing and is not on the WC crappling boat so many people are eager to board.
I also liked what I saw in the WC stances and pics from Siu Lum Tao and other WC apps.
The same Geoff Thompson that developed the Fence and such things that Kamon Guy dismissed on the other thread? How strange :)
I hadn't been following his stuff...Kamon guy's. Geof Thomson I kind of like.
