I'm having a hard time visualizing what you're dong Amp. Yeah there are tight hooks. Offensive gan sao to uppercut, uppercut hook to the ribs from the side. (I think this is an amalgam) Tan sau to pak sau to the face, a' la Enter the Dragon. etc.
I don't know if fun sao is gay...but it can be hard to apply.
I've used it in sparring.
I'm in no position to defend the use of a fun sao. But as far as the technique above, it's just shifting while yanking an arm and throwing a hook. There's a million ways to get there. Fun sao is one.
I was Just trying to illustrate that there are hooks in WC.

WTF is a fun sao?
'sleeping hand' ?

If it's what I'm thinking of, it's applied pressure as you circle around the arm to strike to the target. From fok sao to hun/fun sao. I never realized how damned difficult it is to explain WC.

The Problem with wing chun is that it is too difficult to do properly, so despite the very slim possibility of spectacular results, why bother when you can do something else and get the job done better? In all the schools I've seen, only 2 people could actually do wing chun. Out of thousands. It's NOT easy or simple or straightforward, like all those adverts tell you.

That's exactly correct. It's not simple and easy to learn. It'd behoove more people to do something else to learn to fight. WC + other styles is great though.

I love WC (did it for four years) and my plan was to do WC plus BJJ.
Now I just do BJJ. Lots of reasons really.
WC is great if you can approach it without being brainwashed. Then you can see it for what it is. A tool, nothing more.

Bingo, that's what I'm doing myself. Eventually I'll do some form of Karate, Judo and Kendo. I wish I could combine all three into one class :-/

Fun sao is separating hand.
Wing Chun isn't any more difficult than any other martial art.
