    good post.

    "he said we come within inches and pull our strikes " lol, very.

    "Muay Thai, Kyokushin Karate, Americanized Kickboxing, or even Savate would likely work out for you much better than TKD." Phrost is correct.
    "Training = pain." - I said that.

    As far as I know, Modern TKD doesn't teach effective kicking for anything other than TKD competitions. The stance, the timing, and that annoying "hippity-hippity-hop-KICK!" thing they do will get you sodomized in a street fight.
    This more contemporary form can trace its roots back 2000 years to the Shaolin temple. It basis its fighting techniques from the deadly penguin that migrated there.

    Why are you looking for TKD? I suggest joining Tiger Schulman's Karate (Not bullshitting), as they have an excellent Thai/NHB program. And the adults don't put up with belts and tests.

    Remember the time in the 6th grade where you got your ass-kicked by that 80-pound short-kid? Got BJJ?

    I agree that TKD for the most part teaches a lot of useless ****. I did it for 7 years, (Black belt) but I did it so I could train at night for free in a huge, school with tons of equipment.
    However, our school wasn't typical. We spared the **** out of each other, when with new people we wouldn't go hard, but the blue through black..we kicked, punched & backfisted the **** out of each other. The first time I was ever kicked to the ground was with a spinning heal hook delivered very fast by a kid that still does about 1000 or more kicks a day.

    So it's not as much what you train, as how you train. If you have to choose a wimpy school, see if you can use the school with a few others to train more realistically. We were doing a couple hours of TKD, then the school would close & we would box, roll & do JJ/BJJ..so it paid off.
