Don't clinch with Tyson, you'll be eaten.

Raging Bull-er, so how does the palm or fist come in here?

i usually do a palm to the "face" of the wooden dummy when i train, I could do fist but that would damage me a bit

Palm strikes are great. You can use them as both a strike and a shove, to unballance the opponent and keep his head bouncing this way and that so he can do little more than flail wildly in defense.

The only drawback is that you lose about 4-5 inches of reach that you'd have with a closed fist.

Seems like a good reason for going open palm :)

BAs Rutten used to use palm strikes effectively in old school Pancrase, but that's liek the highest level. They're so many times more difficult to hit with - too difficult to hit with imho.

Doesn't work, sam. Tried it they will just change it to "STRIKE" or "ASSUALT" DAMN

In the PANCRASE event I don't think closed fists were allowed to the face, like in Kyokushin.

Why would a palm be difficult to hit with?

Where I train, harder hitting folks prefer using the fists and strike any ol' target. The quicker gents like open hand stuff or more precise fists. I suppose the open hand has greater blocking potential to them, and using open-hand strikes allows them to counter more quickly.

I'd imagine that with those ufc type gloves it'd make more sense to hit with the fists.

Or is there actually more damaged caused with the palm (since the glove isn't padded there) than with the padded part of the glove?

I heard it's actually smarter than punching........

Absorb what is useful reject what is useless.
Then reject what you heard, unless you've got weak wrists or knuckles, or your hands are broken; when used properly, fists are much more deadly, while the palm-strikes are slow, weak and sloppy; use your open hand for blocking, not striking.

Palm strikes are infinitely more level and solid than a fist, hence the more efficient transfer of energy over a larger area and the easier nose break.
