Which martial art is right for you?

I'm referencing the Feb/March 2003 Issue of Black Belt (whatever's out as I post this). There's an article about about picking which art you want that actually looked pretty good. They listed BJJ as a "Sporting Art" which is fair, the way it's mostly trained. JKD came under "Self-Defense Arts" and there was an intelligent statment in the write up: "These arts are not really suitable for children due to their lethal nature." I'm paraphrasing a bit.

Someone else out there, grab a copy and tell me what you think.

I believe that was said, thats what I am talking about. I know not to listen to a master who's bragging about how his style is lethal and has killed many people.

Oh, my boy's never killed anyone. I suppose it would be more accurate to say "theoretically lethal". Actually, I think a proper JKD gym would be bad for children because they don't have the control to do it succesfully yet and they'd get frustrated.

In the UK its pretty much only the under 18 brigade who buy all the piss poor ninja swords and shuriken, which makes me think we should encourage them to take up the more lethal arts.
As you can probably guess, I take a Darwinian approach to these things.

You what I've found. Kids under 18 who hate adults lookng down on them and thinking they are morons grow up to do the same thing!


As far as what art is right for me well I have combined the lethal power of Hokuto Shin Ken with the awsome power of Hakkyokuken (Baji!) to create

HOKUTO HAKKYOKU SHIN KEN!!!!
