There has never been a "test" to confirm how much "cross over" there is from one "spprt" to another.
If you wanna ge better at doing something, you need to do THAT something, that is agreeded on by everyone, its when we get to the intangiables, such as cardiovascular endurance, that things get tricky.
Thing is, if you like to run/skip rope, do it, it certainly won't hurt your endurance.
BUT, if you are training to wrok on something specific, such as being able to do MT for 10 rounds, well, it would be best to do bag work and spar for at LEAST those 10 rounds. -

I run a lot so I actually feel qualified to answer your questions.
Running long slow distances will give you great endurance at running long slow distances.
Running Fartleks will make you a faster runner.
I would say that neither of these will help in making you more "explosive".
Don't get me wrong, I think that running provides a great cardio fitness base but that's about it.
Something that has helped me become more "explosive" and has improved my cardio is doing olympic style weightlifting. I've been doing the workout of the day over at crossfit.com. It's easily some of the hardest workout efforts that I've ever done. Try it out. -

Gain weight, lose weight, the most important thing is your diet.

I like jumping rope better than running, less impact on your knees (and mine have been crappy...)
Don't know about the difference for burning calories, but www.fitday.com should have some information on that. Splitting up your cardio workouts into two sessions instead of one will burn off more calories than just one longer one.Surfing Facebook at work?
