Double is just a lot thicker and sturdier. Single is less so. Gold is a mix between double and single. Many people like gold/hybrid weaves because they're heavy like doubles but breathe like singles. For competition, people prefer gi's with a very stiff/thick/heavy collar so that it's hard to get a grip on them. Also, the cut might be different so that there is a lot less slack in the sleeves and pants aka harder to grip.

I noticed the difference right away, as soon as I got out of my Judo dress and into a BJJ gi. Much tighter.

Gold weaves kick ass. My Judo singleweave was a tent by comparison and I was always getting tied up with my own gi. Now not only has that problem disappeared but the material is really hard to grab. It feel's like you could grind metal with it.

I reacommend Atama because not only is the gi good (aside from some small stitching issues) but they ship fast and cheap.

see i have a single weave atama, and i love it. but im looking for a new gi, and i kinda like how the gold weave seems to fit better. i dont want double weave but i could see where it would be an advantage. thanks for info.

i thinking about getting a gi from www.mmagear.com
they have a gracie sports gi thats competition weave, but i not sure what the means.

Don't use MMAGear. They have notoriously bad service.
