A newbie Question

It seems to be the prevailing opinion here that if you run a successful business and make a comfortable living, you are a fraud. Could someone explain that to me? No questions are being made about the style (although Tae Kwon Do sems to get little repect here) or training or teaching background. Just "he's making money...must be a mcdojo" (I'm paraphrasing). Seems an awful quick judgement to me.

Everyone is looking for Mr. Myagi. A selfless teacher with lots of time on his hands that will teach you for free and be your best friend and let you use his vintage car for your prom and basically live and breath just for you.
NOT happening.
The real world needs fiscal stability. No money, no rent, no school, period.

It's not bad that a school makes money. Its that some schools are way over the top when it comes to the amount they make off each student with excessive testing, tuition and materials. Although cost isn't really as much of an issue as quality. I'd pay more for a quality school and facility.

The best definition of a Mcdojo is a school that churns out blackbelts in a year like burgers at, well, Mcdonalds. With no regard to the actual skill level of the person they send them off into the world like lambs to the slaughter.

McDojo, is it what you do or is it what you think?

kfdw is right. it's the fact that they churn out black belts and charge an arm and a leg while doing it. rorion gracie charges a fuckload but it takes so long to advance with him that he's not considered a mcdojo.

This is true.

"rorion gracie charges a fuckload but it takes so long to advance with him that he's not considered a mcdojo."

Rorion Gracie is greedy and won't ever give black belts to ANYONE but he does teach legit schools which is the only thing saving him from Mcdojo status.
