Actually, pit bulls have been banned ( I am still ok, I think...*looks around* ).
They are also trying to pass legislation so that owners of ALL breeds will be sublject to criminal AND civil liabilities for anything their animals do in PUBLIC.

I just see them having a hell of a time enforecing it BEFORE anything happens.
Cops can be some lazy SOB at times...not a slight on cops, its just the truth, heck durin gth summer I saw a woman "walking" her rottweiler, NO LEASH and NO muzzle.

You say Pitbulls attacking children became a big problem when Pitbulls became fashionable. And this, according to your logic, is good enough reason to believe that they are "evil". But maybe the reason behind the problem is irresponsible owners.

Many dogs are quite capable of seriously hurting people, and while Pitbulls do this the most, other breeds are still responsible for a high number of attacks. I think it's more likely the reason Pitbulls are responsible for such a high number of attacks is because they happen to be the breed that irresponsible, negligent owners buy the most.

You even say that they are most popular with the types of people who would make bad owners, do you not see a correlation?

I feel that saying Pitbulls are all bad because they are responsible for the highest number of dog attacks is like saying Black people are all criminals because they commit the most crimes.* It's flawed logic that is a result of ignorance and closed-mindedness.

*I am not saying Black people commit the most crimes, I don't know what the latest statistics are, it was just an example.

1) No, it is good enough reason to suspect that they are a highly dangerous breed. Maybe more than should be acceptable in a society which actually worries about the well being of its citizens (specially children).

2) For the most part, yes. But there were always irresponsible dog owners, and there weren´t so many attacks. So it is reasonable to suspect there is something wrong with that breed.

Too further derail this old thread, as a recent converted Pit Lover, its funnyt that COCKER SPANIELS are responsible for more attacks than a pit bull and they are listed among the more agressive dogs. Even the Lassie (collies) have had more attacks against children than pit bulls.

I fail to see the problem with pitbulls. I'm not a fan of them, but I don't hate them. If anything, German Shepherds are more vicious. It all depends on the owner.
