I start a race war between Osiris and Stong Machine, get JKD Chick to say "cock" and now this. Maybe I should stick to slow moving targets like Phil Elmore.
I am the first to admit being hasty or dismissive or just a goddamnn00b about Schulmann.
Consider this: think of all the things that have Bullshido readers have come to recognize as the calling cards of Bullshido:
- contracts
- board breaking
- franchise schools
- birthday parties at your school
- 3 different lawsuits for bad business practices, all of which Schulmann paid out on.
Are all of these things bad? No. Have I ever studied at a school of his? Nope, nor have I every even taken karate, but I did watch a Sonny Chiba movie while stoned and I think I caught the gist of it.
It seems that Schulmann and his students have whooped ass in the recent past and may still. So why do they have the whiff of silly about them? I'm not saying this to be a dick, but seriously, can the two co-exist? Anyone ever seen anything like it?I dork harder than any of you can imagine.

In the recent Naga event TSK placed exactly one person in the top 4 of any no gi division that was not beginner or novice level. Not exactly owning a tournament. Remember points are awarded just for having the most entries. They did do pretty well in the women's division however.
And they didn't place anyone in any gi division in men's, and only one woman.
It looks like they got all their points in the kid's division. So lets cut back on the claims of them "owning" grappling tournaments. With exactly one first place in the entire men's tournament (beginner feather weight) they are not running away with anything.
They might be a good school, but claiming they are dominating any Naga tourney's is bullshit.

an example of bullshido would be telling students that meditation confers the ability to render opponents unconscious by using chi. as has been pointed out by people on this board who are much more knowledgable than i, a school can be a mcdojo and still teach effective fighting skills.

They've done a lot better than I expected in no gi tournaments in the last 2 years. They sometimes place, rarely win but hell, thats still a lot better than most schools deriving from Karate can say.
They have hired BJJ and Kickboxing coaches.
That Shannon Meceo guy looks decent. I've seen him fight 3 times. His rescent loose was due to lack of experience and they clearly underestimated his opponent.
They do well int he local Amateur MMA shows and D'aguste does well in the women divisions. I'm still waiting for one of them to step up and fight in a larger show. I know how the smaller North Eastern shows are run and they definitely protect a lot of fighters and put ppl up against opponents with liitle to no experience.
Give them 3 years. I'm sure they're only going to get better. -
